Riga, 11th October 2006 (MOREL)- On Thursday, 12th October, the Goverment of Estonia will decide on the assistance Estonia will provide as its contribution to the security arrangements during the NATO Summit in Riga, thereby responding to a request by the Prime Minister of Latvia Aigars Kalvītis to his Estonian counterpart. As a result of mutual consultations, it is planned that Estonia will provide armored personnel carriers to assist in the transportation of security personnel during the summit. Latvia has requested assistance from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, as well as from both its neighbor states – Lithuania and Estonia. The Summit of NATO Heads of State and Government will be held in Riga, November 28 – 29, at the Olympic Sports Centre. The Presidents or Prime Ministers of 26 NATO member states will participate in the summit, as well as up to 2000 media representatives who are expected to arrive in Riga to report on the event.
